One of RiseTech Media goals for this year was to help the local municipalities in Cyprus to advance more in technology and utilize smart and cost-efficient solutions.

The question though was how we can achieve that and create added value for all parties involved?

And then BOOM!!

In the last 5 years we have attended hackathons in Cyprus like Hack Cyprus, the BOC Fintech and Open Data CrowdHackathons and abroad the AngelHack and TechCrunch Hackathons. The energy of a hackathon is amazing. The innovation spirit and culture that these events bring to an ecosystem is the only inspiration that someone will need in his life.

So together with the RiseTech Media co-founders we decided to join forces with the awesome guys at CrowdPolicy to organize the first Smart City CrowdHackathon. In the process the Cyta Innovation and Idea Development Center joined as a strategic partner and on February 23-25 the Cyta Smartcity Crowdhackathon will take place in Cyprus.

Cyta Smartcity Crowdhackathon is a hackathon for the development of innovative applications and services, during which participants are to develop pilot services and applications solving problems that local municipalities face and supporting local and national development through new technologies.

The last 1-2 months we are in talks with potential sponsors and supporters to help out, so we can organise a meaningful event. Already many organisations like the Union of Cyprus Municipalities, other local municipalities, AlphaNews.Live, Alpha Cyprus, CyRIC, the Gravity Incubator, Bank of Cyprus, the Youth Board of Cyprus, Cyprus Computer Society, Aftodioikisi.com.cy are on board.

A big SHOOTOUT and a personal THANK YOU goes to Christos Christou, Head of Cyta Innovation and Idea Center, the president of the Union of Cypriot Municipalities Andreas Vyras, and Valentinos Georgiou and Panayiotis Othonos from Alpha Cyprus for their continuous support in making a reality the 1st Cyta Smartcity Crowdhackathon.

If you are interested to support the #CytaSmartcity Crowdhackathon then feel free to drop us a message.

The Timeframe was set with Michael Psallidas and George Karamanolis, cofounders of CrowdPolicy, accordingly:
- 17 January 2018: Smartcity Open day for discussion on good practices and smart city solutions, presentation of Cyta Smartcity Crowdhackathon and planning.
- January 2018: Open consultation for submitting ideas, proposals, commenting and voting on the needs of the citizens on a local and municipal level.
- 15 February 2018: Release of the requirements and specifications in order for the participants to get ready.
- 23 – 25 February 2018: Cyta Smartcity Crowdhackathon and side events.

The Cyta Smartcity Open Day will take place on Wednesday 17th of January 2018 from 10:00 to 15:00 at the central offices of Cyta.

It will feature a discussion on Cyta Smartcity Crowdhackathon, the process that we will follow to explore issues and challenges, the issues that municipalities wish to address, good practices, and existing technology solutions will be presented as well.

We invite representatives of Municipalities, companies and organizations that wish to actively participate in Cyta Smartcity Crowdhackathon as sponsors, supporters or participants to attend Smartcity Open Day and the discussion on smart cities.

During the Smart City Open Day I will explain in a 5 minute presentation how the use of chatbots can assist residents and visitors of Municipalities.
