Typography Font Size Default Reading Mode Share This Nine months after the official launch, Apple has shipped an estimated 11.6 million Apple Watches, according to a report from research firm IDC. Apple is third in the industry with 14.9% of the market, just behind Xiaomi and Fitbit which is still by far the leader reaching 21 million shipments in 2015, more than a quarter of all sales. The global wearable tech market of fitness trackers and smart watches, grew by 172% last year, shipping 78.1 million units. The growth was driven by the popularity of lower-cost trackers from companies like Fitbit and the appeal of the higher-end Apple Watch, the report notes. More than one-third of all sales in 2015 took place in the fourth quarter, resulting in a 127% increase over the previous year's holiday season. "Expectations are higher for the next-generation Watch that can leverage the company's platforms and connectivity capabilities," IDC comments.
