Cyprus hosts ClimateLaunchPad 2017 Global Grand Final with 105 startups rocking cleantech energy

105 Start-ups from 35 countries meet in Cyprus to compete at the world’s largest green business ideas competition.

The Global Grand Final of ClimateLaunchpad, the world’s largest green business ideas competition, will take place in Cyprus this year, on the 17th and 18th of October at the Carob Mill. Limassol will host 105 start-ups from 35 countries during a two-day event, expected to attract more than 400 people amongst which businessmen, investors, researchers and entrepreneurs from all over the world.

Participants and attendees will have the opportunity to discover and hear about the latest green business trends, meet with the new generation of cleantech start-ups from all over the world and get inspired by great, innovative ideas. In particular, on the 17th of October, these 105 start-ups will compete in a round of semi-finals before a renowned jury, aiming to secure one of the 15 places at the final, which will take place on the 18th of October. The best 10 start-ups, that will be selected by the esteemed judges at the final, win direct access to Climate-KIC’s acceleration program, a ‘real life business school’ that focuses on the development and commercialization of cleantech start-ups, as well as access to further funding. The first winner of the final also receives a cash prize of €10,000, the second team a prize of €5,000 and the team that comes in third place wins €2,500. Start-ups will also have the opportunity to pitch for awards and monetary prizes in Climate-KIC thematic categories, such as Urban Transitions, Sustainable Land Use, Sustainable Production Services and Decision Metrics.

The two-day event also includes a great line up of keynote speakers, expert workshops, networking breaks and a spectacular award ceremony, which all participants and attendees can enjoy. This year marks the 4th edition of the ClimateLaunchpad competition with roughly 1,000 green business ideas being submitted in 35 countries across the globe. The selected start-ups in each of the 35 countries underwent intense training during a two-day bootcamp, a series of follow up coaching sessions and participated in a national final. Each country will now be represented in the Global Grand Final by their top-3.

Cyprus will be represented by ‘Grow Green’, a team of high school students producing biodegradable fertilizing flower pots made from used coffee grounds, ‘Echofixer’ that makes paper pulp acoustic panels that improve sound clarity and ‘Be Right Bag’ which manufacture biodegradable, plantable bags made from recycled paper infused with seeds. Good luck to our three teams and let’s hope at least one of you makes it to the Final.

The Grand Final is organized and hosted by Chrysalis LEAP and co-organized by the Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency. Strategic Partner of Chrysalis LEAP for the third year is PwC Cyprus.
